The MacFarland Scholarship is offered at the College of Professional Studies, Northeastern University, Boston, Seattle and Charlotte campuses. It provides scholarship for people, who demonstrate outstanding academic merit and a commitment to transforming urban education as an educator (MAT/MEd) or leader (EdD).
Eligibility criteria for the MacFarland Scholarship:
- The application is open to U.S. Citizens or Permanent residents.
- Work or have the intention of working as an educator in a public school at the elementary or secondary level in an urban area.
- Incase of MAT/MEd:
- Must apply and be admitted to one of the following programs at the College of Professional Studies: Graduate School of EducationMaster of Arts in Teaching- Elementary or Secondary Education.
- Master of Education in Learning and Instruction with ESL Initial licensure in Massachusetts or Special Education with Initial licensure in Massachusetts.
- Incase of EdD:
- Must apply and be admitted to the EdD program at the College of Professional Studies: Graduate School of Education within the following concentrations:
- Innovative Teaching and Learning.
- Integrative Studies.
- Transformative School Leadership.
- Workplace Learning.
- Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Submit a completed FAFSA and have financial need.
- Submission of Essay: Interested applicants should articulate (500-1000 words) their career goals and intentions to work with urban and under-served populations within elementary and secondary public education
Value of the Scholarship:
- A scholarship award of up to $18,700 in case of MAT/MEd.
- A scholarship award of up to $18,000 in case of EdD.
