Department of History Howard C. Payne Award for Excellence in Research at Washington State University 2025

Eligibility Criteria for the Howard C. Payne Award for Excellence in Research:

• The applicants can be of any nationality.
• It is provided for undergraduate awards for excellence in research.
• The applicants are required to write research papers in a senior seminar course (currently HIST 469).

Selection Criteria:

• Eligible students shall be nominated by a Department of History faculty member.
• A committee of department faculty members will review the nominated undergraduate candidates.
• The committee will select the recipient based on the demonstration of scholarship, creativity and the student’s ability to write analytically.

Application Process:

• History students may apply for scholarships, fellowships, and awards by completing an electronic application for the College of Arts and Sciences.
  
• The application opens at the beginning of September each year and must be submitted no later than January 31 for the following fall semester.
  
• Students who complete the WSU General Scholarship Application are automatically considered for all scholarships in CAS, including department, school, and academic program scholarships.
